What is Faith?

Old time evangelist and healer Smith Wigglesworth once said, "What is faith? It is the very nature of God; it is the Word of God. It is the personal inward flow of divine favor, which moves in every fiber of our being until our whole nature is so quickened that we live by faith, we move by faith, and we are caught up to glory by faith! God wants us to have far more than we can handle and see...With the knowledge that you are born again by His incorruptible World, you know that within you is this living definite hope, greater than yourself, more powerful than any dynamic force in the world, for faith works in you by the power of the new creation of God in Christ Jesus. Therefore, with the audacity of faith, we should throw ourselves into the omnipotence of God's divine plan, for God has said to us, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes" (Mark 9:23). It is possible for the power of God to be so manifest in your human life that you will never be as you were before; you will always be going forward from victory to victory, for faith knows no defeat."

Jesus said in Mark 11:22-24: “Have faith in God...I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."

Faith is not grunting out miracles.  It is not lying to ourselves about the situation. It is simply recognizing this truth:  as believers we contain the Spirit of the living God within us, the God who created the universe and everything within it with a word. That's real power. The seriousness of sickness, disaster, relational woes, or a seemingly hopeless situation fades when we think of the ramifications of the incredible power (dunamis) we carry within.

Dunamis (Greek) is defined as "potential for functioning in some way, power, might, strength, force, or capability; specifically, the power that works wonders."

Ephesians 1:18-21 discusses dunamis eloquently, "I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,  and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come."  We. Have. This. Power.

We are possessors of the selfsame power that Christ demonstrated when He created eyes from mud for the blind man, the same power that went out from Him when the bleeding woman grabbed His clothes and forever stopped up her years-long affliction, the very power He released to raise dead Lazarus; that power resides within every believer!  And yes, the Christian world has largely lost sight of that power since the days of the early church, and even teaches doctrines that deny we are to have that power.  But revival is coming! Even now we are seeing an awakening of faith, especially outside the U.S., and when we grasp the awesome truth of a miracle-working God who has already empowered us with the same supernatural muscle Jesus exerted, we will take hold of this inheritance in authority and wield it to release miracles into this lost and hurting world.  We WILL see the lost saved in record numbers, multitudes of sick healed, the oppressed set free and the name of Jesus exalted across the earth!

Jesus said, "Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it." (John 14:12-14)

He also said in Mark 16:17-18, “And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

Believers across the world are beginning to embrace the truth and walk in miracle power. Jesus didn't just die to save us, He bought us SOZO, which means "to make new, to protect, to save, to heal, to preserve, to have faith, to make whole, to love, to make joyous, to have control, to worship, to be made pure; to receive everything good that comes from God." Now this is the FULL salvation we have received, our inheritance.  By this sozo, WE are empowered to do the work of the Lord.   And so we shall, if we just realize the extent of the miracle producing power that resides within us, we who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
